There are things we can do to make not so beautiful things quite beautiful. If we are talking about death, we can think about having gained an angel. If we are talking about lost, we can think about having learned a transformative lesson. If we are talking about the tribulations of love with the people we love, we can think about at least having found love and familiarity and comfort with people who care. There are things we can write. There are ways we can think. There are ways we can act to make the most of a world actually quite so small, and a timeline actually even smaller, but nonetheless equally beautiful.
p.s. My sister sent me these phenomenal quotes today through text:
“Things could be terrible, and in many ways, they are. But there are things we can do to make it beautiful, and we should.”
“We look to ideas, to words because we need to look to something that feels permanent and real…Or we see them on a screen illuminated, glowing, black and white sculptures that fire neurons inside our skulls.”
“Words mean things. Watch out for when they stop having meaning. Learn to tell the difference.”
I didn’t get the name of the person who wrote them, but whoever and wherever this person is, thank you. Thanks for thinking of me Kate. Here are to those things!
